Light at the end of the tunnel

It's official! We now have permission from the council to open the paper road that is the old Pack Track down from the Rameka, so our clearing efforts have not been in vein. Big thanks to Karl, Brent and Joe who have been instrumental in pushing the project through this week and of course everyone else who's chipped in. We should be in good shape for a big push at the next BIG working bee on August 7th see you there, bring some lunch!

Skills Clinic

A successful first skills clinic with seven of our young members took place on Saturday, and despite a chilly start the 11-15 year age group warmed to a Chris Mildon coaching class, as he put them through their paces.  Chris Mildon is the High Perfomance Director of Mountain Bike New Zealand and will be acting manager as he travels with the MTBNZ squad for this years World Champs in Switzerland. Reece Potter, as you probably already know will be part of that squad.
A good 5 hour session saw the youngsters start with the basics, and were put through some simple drills, based around obtaining balance on their bikes. Time was then spent making some adjustments to their set ups, as a way of helping them get a better feel and awareness. They were then able to put their skills into practice with a few more drills on some of the Club's tracks.
Everyone enjoyed the day, a well worthwhile club event, thanks to the parents that helped, especially Georgie and Marcus with an awesome soup for lunch!

Kiwi's win in BMX World Cup

The BikeNZ BMX High Performance squad have just completed a round of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in the Netherlands over the weekend.
Marc Willers and Sarah Walker pressed their Olympic dreams by the
winning the latest BMX Supercross World Cup. The track is the blueprint for the track to be constructed for next year’s London Olympics. The track was nearly 50 metres longer than the previous longest track, with some challenging new jumps that led to a host of crashes throughout the event.“I am absolutely rapt. That was pretty scary out there. It is such a big track and that was just so hard!” Sarah Walker
