Ticking along...
A few trees down up the traks, while new tracks emerge.....
After last week's storm there are a few trees down and the odd bit of gorse on the Rameka Track, the Pack Track and the Klicks. There are also trees down in the Rameka Project.
We are dealing with these as best we can with our small crew so bear with us! Meanwhile we are chipping away with new track work here and there as well as looking at doing the Youth of the Bay a favour by giving them some shuttle and tuition time....watch this space....

Canaan trackwork
Our tracks at Canaan Downs are always in need of maintenance, a few of us do our best to keep on top of the mountain of work that is required up there.
The Log causeway on the Canaan Main Loop has seen a wee makeover recently thanks to Karl Thompson and Joe Hambrook. DOC kindly gave us the use of a digger, a truck and Joe for the day and we've been able to top up the gravel and remediate "Lori's Leap"
There is also a track counter on the Rock Squeeze so we will be able to keep tabs on numbers going through.....
Canaan Rekky
Work is long overdue on the Main Loop up at Canaan, so we have been up for a reeky to make a plan for an upgrade...
A few of us headed up to Canaan a couple of days ago to spend some time devising a work plan for the late Summer. The Main Loop at Canaan was the Club's first track and more recent projects have meant that we have unfortunately neglected one of our main assets. However plans are in place to do a major upgrade later in the year, watch this space...
Kaiteriteri Bliss!
Another excellent trip over the hill for some Kaiteriteri shuttles on Tuesday night saw a round dozen of us get at least two runs each on Jaws amongst other trails, and finish the night off with some beers. Big thanks to Brian Sowman for making it happen.....
Watch this space for more Kaiteri shuttles.....
Longest Day Club Ride

Killdevil latest
Read the latest report on the Killdevil progress from Brian Sowman
The Club pulled the digger off the Kill Devil on Wednesday afternoon having gone as far up as we could before the track became to narrow. We ended up a few bends above the slip before attaching the scrap would have been required to move higher. To go any higher will involve a helicopter lifting a digger now.
After our work the track is probably looking a bit over groomed now to the purest but will revert back to a rougher state with weather and riding. Some of the work on the corners slightly altered the flavour but needed to be done to move the digger up to do the water turnouts that we went up to do. Someone made the comment that by the time one had descended down to the lower sections it was nicer to have a less rugged track.
Brian A, Karl Thompson and Brian Sowman are keen to do more up there before Xmas, if the Club can get a digger.
Looks like every helicopter shift of the digger with 3 or 4 days work will cost about $5000. We should have enough money to pay for this out of the first year grant. To do a second helicopter shift could mean the club cashflowing it until the next lot of grant money comes in. That is not due until April. But all in all, looking good, and on schedule.
BIG THANKS!

Milk & Honey Race; Results 2015
Wow, what an awesome day, it certainly belonged to the teenagers with Cameron Jones taking home the coveted John De Vries "Iceman" Milk & Honey Trophy. Out of the six Under 17's that rode the race four of them were 14 and two 15 years old! Cameron Jones winning time was 02:43:19 So the record set by Henry Jaine still stands at 02:36:35.
Overall Results on below link, we are still working on the splits, and will be also be posting some photos as and when we get them filtering through from our volunteer photographers out on the course. Thanks for coming/helping/riding/ and generally supporting this awesome race!
