Canaan Tracks Working Bee 21st June 2009

Workers: Andy Cole, Brian Bell, Peter Greer, Woofer Joe, Bruce Chick, Theron Burgess, Martin Langley

Two work groups chipped away on Sunday. Theron is leading an on-going rock-work project on a steep beech forest section which is going to be really special. The group working there also included Peter, Joe, Brian and Bruce. Andy and Martin installed two bridges to continue the flow at the bottom of Karl’s previous digger work. The bridges were relocated from Parapara, originally built by Peter Blasdale. One bridge avoids the swampy section, then the track is mowed and marked through the cluster of beech trees where the second bridge makes for an easier creek crossing. Martin then mowed the karst ridge track (see photo) and a line up past Misty Cottage.

Latest news from the Bay

Hi
Sounds like the girls had a great ride up at Canaan downs. Not content with 2 trips round the tracks, they decided to come down the Rameka, finishing at dusk. Well done Mandy, Melanie, Kerry and Nic.

Club ride round Gibbs hill on the 14th of June was great. 16 riders turned up in perfect sunny conditions, fantastic views over the bay. We behaved ourselves when we met walkers, even splitting into smaller groups on the DOC track. This was the first club ride in the Abel Tasman park since it has been legalised. Awesome. Lets do it again.....

Workshop run by Chris Mildon on Wednesday the 10th of June talk on bike fit and positioning. 12 people turned up with bikes for a great lesson in fitting your bike to your shape and size. Chris used a plumb bob, spirit level, and a wooden angle. Wonderful workshop, we will have him back.

Project Rameka

Just letting you all know what's going on at Project Rameka. The AGM is on Weds 6 May, 5.30pm at The Brigand cafe/bar, Commercial St, Takaka. If anyone is interested , you'd be most welcome to come along. You might be pleasantly surprised to hear how much progress in track building and tree planting has happened on the Project Rameka block over the last year. There's already almost 2km of track to ride there, still an in-and-out ride at the moment but by this time next year there's likely to be a link to further down the Rameka Road. The Project is going to be a great addition to the Rameka track experience - great single track that avoids most of the shingle road. There'll be other more technical tracks built in the future as well, once this one is finished. If you want to be able to say you helped build tracks that you're going to love riding, there's another working bee happening on the block on Sunday May 10, 10am start. If you want more info, contact Marie or Martin at The Quiet Revolution Cycle Shop.
